As a student of Mathematics, you will learn that Math is an integral part of a large number of career paths and provides a basic foundation for logic and reasoning. Furthermore, Math is required for the majority of occupational and academic degree programs such as engineering, healthcare, science, education, computer technology, automotive technology, and much, much more. Math is used in numerous tasks in your everyday life, e.g., balancing your checkbook, determining your savings on a sales item, when buying a house or a car, as well as for calculating your tax refund.
GateWay offers the following variety of Math courses:
- Basic Arithmetic - MAT082
In this class, you will learn the fundamental operations of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, integers, and rational numbers, as well as proportions and percentages. Other topics include representations of data, geometric figures, and measurement.
- Mathematical Concepts/Applications - MAT102
A problem solving approach to Mathematics, as it applies to life and the world of work, will be explored in this course. You will be able to develop, demonstrate, and communicate mathematical concepts and formulas that relate to measurement, percentages, statistics, and geometry.
- Introduction to Algebra - MAT091 & MAT092
(This is taught at two different paces, covering the same material, to meet your learning needs.)
This course teaches general mathematical principles: the application of letters representing numbers is combined with the rules of arithmetic to solve algebraic equations.
- Intermediate Algebra - MAT120, MAT121 & MAT122
(This is taught at three different paces, covering the same material, to meet your learning needs.)
This course takes a closer look into the world of algebra. In this context, quadratic, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions and equations will be explored in linear and graphic form. Other topics include rational and radical expressions, complex numbers, and their application.
- College Algebra - MAT151
This course takes an in-depth look into algebra and introduces the ideas of relations and functions, such as polynomial functions, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Other concepts that are covered include systems of equations and inequalities, matrices, sequences and series.
- Math for Industrial Applications - MAT103AA & MAT103AB
Fundamental operations with whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, percentages, and ratio and proportion, as it relates to the word of occupational work, will be covered in this course. It include graphs, measurements, and measurement tools.
- Math for Elementary Teachers - MAT156
This course focuses on numbers and operations as applied to teaching elementary mathematics.
- Finite Math - MAT172
An introduction to the Mathematics required for the study of social and behavioral science is explored in this course and includes sets, combinatorics, probability, matrix algebra, linear programming, and mathematics of finance.
- Plane Trigonometry - MAT182
This course provides a look at the study of angles and their functions.
- Brief Calculus - MAT212
An introduction to the theory, techniques, and applications of the differential and integral calculus of elementary functions with problems of interest to students in business and social sciences is provided in this course.
